Looking to become a fashion blogger, a fashion stylist or a fashion influencer? You’ve come to the right place!

“It’s very important not to force yourself to write a new post or to take photos just because you feel like you have to, especially when you really don’t want to.”

You want to become a blogger. You did your research on what to blog about, or your niche, and when to blog. You found out that you should post on specific days or times as that’s when you’ll get the most response. The question now is: should you really follow everything you read about blogging? Keep on reading to know Malinina’s two-cents on this!

What is your name or what should we call you, and how long have you been a stylist/blogger/influencer? Do you remember the year (maybe the day and month, too) that you started?

My name is Malinina Ekaterina, and it was in the autumn of 2013. It’s crazy! Time passed so fast!

Do you have a specific style?

I love to experiment with different styles, but most of all I like grunge, casual and a little of retro. Sometimes I change it up with just sneakers, ripped jeans and dresses. But of course, the attire must be feature-worthy!

Why did you want to become a blogger or an influencer? Was there anything that happened that triggered you to become one? Did you see something or someone online, or was it because of your avid interest for fashion?

I have always liked playing with fashion. Then, one day, it became more than just a hobby that lead to my blog and everything that I do now!

How did you start? Did you start with social medias first, then made a site? Or did you start off with a website together with the social medias?

At first, I started a blog, and later on, I created an account on Instagram. The blog really helped me to be free and to just post whatever, and whenever, I want. It helped me get in touch with a lot of interesting people, too!

Which website are you using for your blog (WordPress, Blogpost, etc.)? Do you have a reason as to why you chose this website? If so, what were they?

I’m using Blogpost. This platform is very convenient to use and very easy to configure. At the same time, stylish and functional. Also, from what I heard, a blog on this platform has a high chance of appearing on the first pages of search engines!

Which social medias did you use in the beginning? Which one do you think was the most helpful one in terms of reaching your audience? Why did you think that it was the best medium to use?

It was Lookbook. It’s a community of people that love fashion, and if your style is really interesting, you will definitely get a lot of attention.

How often do you post on your social medias when you were in the beginning stages? Was there a specific time that you thought was the best to post?

I might not be the right fashion blogger to be asked about this because I only post pictures when I’m in the mood!

What camera were you using when you started? Did you have a photographer or you took the photos by yourself? Would you be able to compare the quality of the photos from when you were just starting and to how it is now? What were the changes?

When I started blogging, I used an old Olympus camera. Now, I have a Nikon 3100. All photos are taken by my husband. I’m not a professional model, and he is not a professional photographer, but when we work together, we can produce great content!

How was your first year of becoming an influencer? Others have said that the first year is the hardest, for any business in fact. Was there ever a point that you didn’t think it would work? Did you ever get demotivated? If you did, what happened and how did you go through that obstacle?

When I started the blog, I wasn’t really sure as to how far it could go. I never had a hard time because I only post on my blog whenever I want to or whenever I’m inspired. It’s very important not to force yourself to write a new post or to take photos just because you feel like you have to, especially when you really don’t want to. You should never need to force yourself. You need to do it sincerely and from the heart, and when you do this, great content will show.

As an influencer, there must be a lot of times that you were contacted for a collaboration, do you remember the first time you were sponsored by a brand? Do you remember which brand it was and what it was that you received?

I think it was three years ago. I can’t remember exactly, but from my memory, it was the site SheIn.com. I just couldn’t believe at that time that my hobby as a fashion blogger was liked so much that a brand offered to collaborate. It was so cool!

Receiving that from the brand, how did it make you feel? For many bloggers, that must have been such an achievement! Did you celebrate when it happened or was there anything that you did in particular to celebrate?

I just always say thank you to our Creator for this opportunity ;). It really feels great knowing that my favorite hobby has developed, and eventually became my favorite job.

Do you have any advice to the future influencers/bloggers/stylists? Do you have any few words for them that they could keep in their minds to keep them motivated or inspired?

Sure! Here are a few words:

  1. Never try to follow someone else’s standards or follow other people’s dreams.
  2. Do what you want for yourself.
  3. Never be afraid to start because what’s worse is not even trying at all.
  4. Always remember that sincerity will always be rewarded.

Finally, do you have a motivational quote that could surely motivate you whenever you are feeling demotivated? If there is, what would that be?

Yes. “What does not kill us – makes us stronger.” And – “treat people the way you want them to treat you.”
